Christian Activities at Rockford Lutheran Jr. & Sr. High SchoolStudents have the opportunity for personalized spiritual growth by attending weekly Chapels, doing Christian Service projects and being involved with the Spiritual Leadership Team. ChapelOur weekly chapel experience provides an opportunity for our students to gather for corporate worship. With distinctive Junior High and Senior High services, we seek to provide an opportunity for students to grow in their understanding of how to worship, and grow in their relationship with the God we do worship. Our chapels are led by our Jr. High and Sr. High students in the Chapel Bands and tech teams. Rockford Lutheran has been blessed with many students with outstanding musical gifts who desire to serve God by leading worship. Each chapel band has 8 students who meet twice a week before school to practice and prepare for each Friday's chapel. They also regularly lead singing at our academy schools. Our student tech teams set up and take down all the sound and video equipment that is used during chapel and run the mixing boards and computer equipment. In recent years, more and more students have volunteered to speak at chapel, in addition to being engaged in various aspects of preparing for worship. Christian ServiceAll of our students are engaged in Christian Service through their religion classes. Service opportunities progress from special projects for home and family to serving their churches and school in the community and world. Our students are encouraged to participate in their congregation's mission trips and activities as well. Students plan and report on a project of their design. Many have found this to be an experience that not only allows them to put their faith into action, but also shapes their future career plans. Students and community alike benefit from this creative program. Spiritual Leadership TeamThe Lutheran High Spiritual Leadership team consists of juniors and seniors with a common mission to impact the spiritual climate of our school and the spiritual life of each student. These students have been trained through a variety of opportunities, including our Christian Service Leadership class and training as Freshmen retreat leaders. The team meets weekly to plan and pray for different upcoming activities, opportunities and current needs of their fellow students. They also provide a valuable student perspective on the current spiritual life of the campus. They annually lead our "See You at the Pole" event in September and have been the planners of the annual World Vision 30 Hour Famine, which to date has raised over $17,000 to aid world hunger. Students also engage in work with the "Toys For Tots" and "Christmas for Kids" collections at Christmas time. |
